The future of automotive development
The automotive industry is facing a major challenge
Driver monitoring cameras must not only function reliably to ensure safety systems such as drowsiness detection or distraction warnings – they are now also legally mandated. Compliance with these requirements is crucial for vehicle type approval and the safety of all road users.
However, existing testing methods are expensive and difficult to scale, as they require real vehicles and complex hardware. In an era of ever-shorter development cycles and increasing cost pressures, new approaches are needed to implement these tests efficiently and in compliance with regulations. This is exactly where we come in: Our solution enables virtual testing of driver monitoring systems – faster, more cost-effectively, and scalably. This helps manufacturers comply with legal requirements and drive innovation.
Virtual tests instead of hardware marathons
IR-based camera systems must reliably detect gaze direction, eyelid movements, and other physiognomic features even under changing conditions – from bright sunlight to nighttime lighting. The key lies in synthetic datasets that enable virtual participant studies. This allows thousands of variations to be tested in advance: ethnic diversity, age groups, types of glasses and beards, sitting and head positions, or pupil size – all quickly and without physical hardware. This makes development not only more efficient but also significantly more cost-effective.
Our core innovation
Our EVOs are developing a powerful and scalable testing platform that transforms videos to realistically simulate near-infrared camera footage. This enables the creation of dynamic scenarios with virtual test subjects, which can be easily created and flexibly adapted thanks to the right expertise.
Key innovation:
• RGB-to-NIR transformation for realistic video data
• Realistic scene generation with any digital subjects
• Automated protection at the touch of a button – overnight
This allows critical perception states such as fatigue or distraction to be tested virtually under changing light conditions while driving – without real vehicles.
