The Formula Student is an international design competition in which students develop, manufacture and test a single-seater racing car in formula style within a year. They compete with their vehicle on international race tracks against teams from all over the world. However, the competition does not just evaluate the fastest car, but the best overall package. In addition to the dynamic disciplines on the race track, the teams must impress in so-called static disciplines. Technical expertise in vehicle design, the physical principles, financial planning and production processes as well as the presentation of a business plan play a crucial role. A panel of experts from the motorsport, automotive and supplier industries evaluates the performances.
An electric Formula Student racing car weighs around 180 kg and is powered by a motor with a maximum output of 80 kW.On twisty race tracks, the best teams accelerate their vehicles to 100 km/h in under two seconds. Other important factors include lateral acceleration, braking performance, and handling. These characteristics are enabled by advanced aerodynamic packages, torque-vectoring-controlled hub motors, and a software-based driving dynamics control optimized for every driving condition. An additional challenge is to move the vehicle safely and quickly around the track using an autonomous system.
EVOMOTIV supports the teams as a sponsor KA-RaceIng from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Racing team of the University of Stuttgart. With extensive expertise in automotive development, EVOMOTIV supports teams with complex technical problems and project management. This also includes trial judgments with detailed feedback as preparation for competitions. The motto 'Inspire People – Develop Values' is not only practiced internally at EVOMOTIV but also in the context of sponsorship. A special focus is placed on team dynamics: appreciation, feedback culture, leadership, respect, and communication are central elements of the support. With this approach, EVOMOTIV aims to accompany the teams throughout the season and help them achieve their goals—whether it’s winning trophies or the personal and professional growth that young engineers gain for their future tasks.
Formula Student brings together teams from all over Germany, Europe and the world, including countries such as Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Estonia, the USA and India. It is impressive how much knowledge, responsibility, precision and organisation come together in this competition. Building a new car in less than a year that can even drive autonomously is an enormous challenge - for many participants, even a life's work. But thanks to intensive cooperation, considerable time and personal commitment and tireless dedication, teams of up to 70 people achieve this impressive feat.
